Potter Né Chef

My journey into pottery all started with a birthday gift, a single pottery class that turned into an interest, which evolved into a passion, and finally a second career.

As a child, it was no surprise to anyone that I was going to be a chef. I casually stated it to my Dad after watching PBS cooking shows one Saturday afternoon. Fueled by the genius of chefs Jacques Pepin, Martin Yan and the goddess herself, Julia Child (plus the desire not to compete with my wildly artistic family), I threw myself into the creative pursuit of cooking. I had some wins as a budding chef and much to the chagrin of my parents, some astronomical failures (two words: orange pasta). Nevertheless, I persisted and became a chef for 17 long years.

One day, after noticing my borderline obsession with pottery videos on YouTube, my wonderful husband bought me a wheel-throwing class for my birthday. After only a few minutes on the wheel, I was hooked with a capital “H”. I quickly signed up for more and more classes. From wheel-throwing to hand-building, large pieces to tiny beads, and even to hollow donut planters, I started learning all I could. That single class evolved from a hobby into a dream and finally into LWB Pottery.

Donut Planters

Lately, I've been focusing on designing donut planters using sgraffito and sprigging. I usually strive to incorporate nature into my designs, but also love abstract and tribal motifs. Contact me if you'd like me to create a custom design for you.

Mountain Mugs

My mountain mugs have also been very popular. I knead different clays together, then throw it on the wheel to create a sandstone effect.
